THE RED DEMON

The Red Demon chip was conjured up in 2005. When one of my employees, who was a little shorted sighted at the time, couldn't see the tiny red letters and numbers that were on the top of the OPA2134 integrated circuit.

As soon a batch of these IC's came in from the supplier, he would place a red dot on the top of each chip with a paint pen.

At the time he was also reading the Thomas Harris novel 'the Red Dragon'. Some how, after too many late nights and too much coffee, ( well, he said it was coffee, but who the hell knows? ) the two were added together and thus the Red Demon was born.

The name kind of stuck even after it's coiner was no longer with us. As some of you might know the OPA2134 is the best sounding chip on the market. Why it's not used extensively in regards to pedal manufacturing, is probably on account of it price. It costs about ten times more than the generic 4558 or TL072.

VON LEHMANN'S ARACHNOID

In 2007, guitar pedal modifications were changed forever when Von Lehmann Engineering introduced the world to their newly manufactured 'Arachnoid'.

This little eight legged component allows us to change the inline SIP integrated circuits, that are found in Boss pedals, with a Red Demon chip.

At Von Lehmann Engineering, we pride ourselves on using only the best parts available.

That’s why the socket that the Red Demon sits in is perfectly machined tooled for maximum contact.

That’s also why the Capacitors we use are all made of Metalized Polyfilm instead of those Polarized Electrolytic Capacitors that pedal manufacturers like to use. This reduces noise significantly.

The Resistors we prefer to use are carbon film with a 5% tolerance.

These are not as quiet as metal film resistors, with a 1% tolerance, but we’ve found them to sound warmer.

After all, if you’re bothering to have you pedal modified, you must love that analog sound. And
nothings more analog then good old fashion carbon film resistors.

However, if noise is an issue, we will substitute the carbon film resisters with metal film.

The LEDs we like to fit our pedals with (whenever possible ) are 5mm Ultra Brights.
This insures that you’ll never lose sight of your pedal, not even on the darkest stage.

We also fit each type of effect pedal with a different colored LED. So even if you can’t see
your pedalboard, you still know which pedal your turning on and off.

All Distortion, Overdrive and Wah pedals are fitted with Blue 5mm LEDs.

All Compression and Noise Gates pedals are fitted with Yellow 5mm LEDs.

All Equalizer and Volume pedals are fitted with Green 5mm LEDs.

All Flangers and Phasers are fitted with Red 5mm LEDs.

All Delay pedals are fitted with Orange 5mm LEDs.

All Chorus pedals are fitted with Ultraviolet 5mm LEDs.
