Since the DS-1's introduction in 1978, it’s become a legend amongst guitarist all over the world.

Only problem is, that straight out of the box the Boss DS-1 is a bit of a ‘one trick pony’. The distortion isn’t very dynamic or responsive and the tone control seems to enhance all the wrong frequencies. Overall, this pedal seems to suck the life out of your sound and makes you work for every note.

I always found it hard to believe that great guitar players like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani used this pedal in its stock condition.

At Von Lehmann Engineering, we thought this pedal could use a make over, so we replaced the clipping diodes with LED’s. This gives the pedal a smooth sustaining distortion, perfect for rhythm and lead.

We’ve also modified the EQ stage, so the tone control will allow you to dial in that perfect sound every time. And we’ve replaced various components with higher grade components, this makes the pedal super responsive to your playing and much quieter.

This is without doubt one of our best sounding pedal modifications. Now every nuance of your unique playing style will be audible as your notes sustain for days and your chords cut through the mix.
